Its not really his opinion on black on white but others that he agrees with. Someone said that with black and white there are no distractions except what you wanted the picture of. Another person said that black and white could look soft and peaceful or they can be strong and powerful. They basically think its more artistic than color pictures.

Black and white photgraphy is superior to color because it is not distracting. When shooting portraits color photography does not emphasize the subject as much as black and white. Color portraits can have distracting objects in the background that take away from the subject. Black and white shows the true person and les them speak for themselves.

I like the article under "other tips" at the top about moving the camera. when movine the camera you can have a simple blurred image, whirled image or camera throwing. this techniques can create a different piece of photographic art if done right.
Shane says that color can be distracting and take away from the subject. in a color picture, if the subject has a plain look the colors around it may distract the viewer and take away from the importance of the pictured subject. In a portrait the main subject is the focus of the picture, if the focus of the picture is drawn to something other than the pictured subject, the point of the picture is ruined. A B&W photo keeps the subject simple and easy to see.

Shane feels that color takes away from the picture because of its potential for distraction. Vivid colors may look pretty, but in reality it is taking focus away from the actual sucbject of the shot. By shooting in black and white, you can let the subject be themselves, and who they truly are, rather than have them "judged" by the colors that they are portrayed with.

Shane likes using black and white photography in portraits because he feels that when you have color that image doesn’t speak for its self. He feels that black and white portraits show honesty and it shows you the true person in your portrait.

If you ask an art teacher if black and white are really colors you should hear no. Shane feals the same way, the black and the white are tool to make his photos speak for them selves. He feals that "colors take away from the immage" and using black and white as toold instid of color lets the viewer SEE the picture.

Shane and his friends feel that black and white photography is superior when shooting portraits for many of reasons. Versatility is one reason, Portraits, landscapes, cities, buildings, and structures all look good in black and white. It is an intermediate that finds a way to present itself beautifully under any kind of lighting conditions. Also in black and white photography there are no distractions. There’s no obnoxious colors that stand out and draw you away from the subject. There are the colors black and white and yet there are many different shades of them both combined in-between, which are sometimes challenging to bring out. Finally there is a variety when shooting with black and white film. Black and White images can be stern, with lots of contrast and dominant or they can be so supple, calm and fine. Black and white IS superior when shooting portraits.

Shane likes black and white photography so much because it allows his subjects to speak for themselves without the distractions that he feels color adds to an image. He also likes the amount of tones that can be expressed in a black and white photograph. He states that using black and white photography is like molding clay in the fact that he can make any subject as harsh or soft as he feels will portray them correctly.
Shane's opinion is basically that having colors in a picture distracts you from what the picture is of. With so much going on it doesn't have as much purpose and feeling as well as making the portraits seem to be more honest.

Shane feels that the use of black and white photography allows the true subject to appear in the photograph. There are no distracting colors that take away from the meaning of the picture, and the photographer is able to create a simplified (but real) image of the subject. This also causes the focus on the subject of the picture to be intensified. With the subject washed away of color, the photographer can reveal the feelings, thoughts, and mood of the subject.
Shane feels that using black and white photography allows the true subject to be revealed. With the absence of color, there are no distractions and the focus of the picture is more obvious. This creates a simplified, yet intense photograph, in which the subject is seen in a whole new way. With the color washed away, the feelings, emotions, and mood are able to be seen.
Abbey Sims
Shane talks about how he personally likes black and white photos because there are so many shades in between black and white that its a challenge to bring them all out. Shane says that using black and white photos in portraits give the best results.

Shane feels that black and white photography is superior when shooting portraits because the color in some pictures takes away from the subject and distracts the viewer. Also he feels that it makes a black and white portrait shows emotion and feeling the subject has at that time.

When the background of something is really vibrant and the subject of the picture isnt as bright who ever looks at the picture might pay more attention to whats in the background instead of the subject. So Shane makes his pictures black and white so all of the attention of the picture is on the subject.-Christina Gademer
I agree with Shane because black and white photos are in some ways more dramatic than color pictures. Black and white shots change the feeling of the image in the picture.
Black and White photography is making a big comback in the photography world. people are recognizing the beauty of a "monotone" picture. There are many reasons that people love black and white photography, one of them is versatility. There does not have to be a sunny day (like you need for color) to take a good black and white shot. Also Black and White pictures are good for portraits, landscapes and other genres of pictures. Another reason is no distractions. One of the people said this, and I tend to agree, that some color pictures are very distracting and does not let you focus on the subject. The last two reasons are variety and subtley tones. With variety, a photographer can take a very strong, solid picture that says a lot, but they can also take a picture that is gentle and soft in black and white. I love how the subtley of tones is used in black and white photography. Trying to figure out the right contrast is awesome. And it says a lot about the picture. If the white to black contrast is kind of boring, than the picture could be intresting, but not likely. If the picture has HUGE contrast it says something completly differnt about the picture. Personally, I do not know which i prefer, black and white or color. There are things i like about both and there are certain cases where i would use one, the other, or both to shoot a roll of film.

Shane feels that black and white pictures are better than colored because the colors take away from the subject. In black and white the subject can have its own identity and speak for itself without distractions.

Shane feels black and white photography is superior to color when shooting portraits becuase of it's adaptability to different situations including lighting. Black and white photography keeps the viewer interested in the subject as opposed to color distractions. There are many things you can do with black and white to change the feel of the photgraph, such as a bright impactful picture or a dimmer more gentle shot. The assortment of things you can do with black and white photography sometimes can make an overall better photograph than a color one.
-Christi R.
Shane says that using black and white photography for portraits allows the focus to stay on the subject without any distracting colors so remove the focus. I agree with him on some things, but for other pictures, the focus should be the color. However, when it come to portraits-unless the subject wants it to be in color- should be in black and white. It allows the subject to stand out more.
Black and White photography is superior when shooting portraits because black and white can be shot anywhere at anytime, in daylight or at night and the image would still be the same. Also color may take away from the photo and a vibrant color may distract the viewer, when using black and white photography the observer can see the tones and shapes of the portrait.
-Rob S.
I think Shane believes that black and white shooting is superior over picture taking because it makes the picture more worth looking at. In black and white prints, the dark shadows will come out very dark an the highlights of the picture will come out very light. Thses kind of pictures could very easily WHET someone interest when looking at them.
-Emily B.
Shane says that colors in some pictures can be too distracting to the subject, it takes away from the main image that the photographer was trying to capture. Taking away color enables us to focus on the subject without anything else interfering.
Ryan C.
Shane prefers black and white photography for portraits since the subject and the photographer are isolated in their talent; neither has to rely on terribly distracting colors. Black and white portraits are more honest or raw since there is nothing to distract the viewer. Composition, emotion and design elements are all emphasized since there is nothing else basically, and that takes skill on both the photographer's and the subject's parts. It's a truer representation of skill and emotion.
-Lauren E.
Shane feels that color photography can sometimes distract the viewer from the subject. Black and white photography allows the viewer to focus on the subject. In portraits, it is obviously very important that the subject is the main focus of the photograph, and the lack of color lets the true personality of the person that is photographed come through rather than the colors.
Sorry, I forgot to put my name:

Shane feels that black and white photography is superior when shooting portraits because it always gives the best results of the image really looks like. Color is very nice but black and white images are more forgiving when shooting and developing, Lighting for black and white images doesn’t really matter where as color photos are the opposite.
Shane feels that black and white photo's show the "true colors" of his subjects. Without color there is nothing distracting the viewers thoughts on the photo. They see the photo for what it truly is.
Black and white photos are the best, and I say this from past experience. In the past, i have draw pictures in art, designed tattoos, and taken pictures and i hate color. I love the pictures in black and white. I can se where shane is comming from when he implies that a colored picture is distracting. color tends to allow you to look at the picture as a whole oppsed to focussing solely on the subject matter. Taking away color allows you to see the true picture. I also think that color doesn't shade as well as black and white picture. Black and white picture hav a great variety of tones within the blackest black and the whitest white range. The images can be really strong with high contrasts and powerful, or they can be soft, gentil, and subtle. Black and white picture set the mood for each situation. The format will suit any picture, oppsed to color only looks its best when its taken in lots of light or on a good day. Black and white will set the mood and the stage. You can tell by the tones in each picture if the picture was taken on a good day or a bad day. I stongly agree that black and white pictures are better than colored because it gives them life.
Shane feels that removing the color from portrets alowes the subjuct to speak of them selfes. that it alows you to show the them at there esence and keeps your focaus on the subject not any distraction images.
the best pictures taken are in black and white, and i agree with shanes views based on past experience. In the past i have draw pictures, designed tattoos, and taken pictures. However i feel they beest represent themselves when they are in black and white, becasue there aren't any distractions in the picture. When you take a colored picture you look and the picture as a whole opposed to a black and white picture whn you focus solely on the subject matter. Color is distracting and in black and white you see the true picture. I also like black and white better because it shades well. There are mnay tones of black and white between the blackest black and the whitest white. They picture expresses itself when in black and white because the images can be strong and high contrasted and powerful or soft, gentil, and subtly. Black and white is good fro any situation, because the format wil suit any photograph. however colored pictures need good lighting to have a good picture. The black and white pictures set the mood, because of its variety of tones you can tell when it was taken in day or night. Black and white gives the photograph much quality and distinct features. I strongly agree with Shane on the behalf the black and white picture are better and they give the picture more life.

I think that Shane feels as though black and white photography is superior for taking portraits because he prefers the artistic composition to be the main focus of the picture, rather than having colors divert attention from the face. A portrait in color is usually very boring and does not keep a veiwers attention as there are so many different colors, shades and tones happening in one's face. However, a portrait in color captures emotion and feeling instead of color. Black and white portraiture is unique and interesting.

Shane feels that black and white photography is superior when shooting portraits because 1. Versatility-Black and white photography suits almost any format while color is used more for sunny days or brightly lit places. 2. No Distractions-Colors can distract from what the picture is really about. Black and white images let the subject speak create its own interest. 3. Subtlety of tones-Our world has become one of many different colort but sometimes its the simplest of colors (black and white and all the different shades) that show the most. 4. Variety- Black and white photographs are multi-dimensional. It can be strong and bold or it can be soft and gentle.
-Ryan D.
I agree with what Shane said in his comment. I agree that, "taking the color out of an image lets the subject speak for themselves." Without color, the picture allows you to be more creative in creating your own perspective of the picture. A certain mood is given off through black and white.. a more dramatic, and serious mood.
-Brittany M.
Tyler,
Shane likes how there are fewer distractions from the subject. Shane finds that in portrait photography if you take the color our of a picture it allows for the subject to speak for itself. He likes the fact that taking color out of a picture makes it simple and honost. I tend to agree with him in the aspect of it being lest disracting toward certain scenes. However there are many pictures and scenes in which color adds to the subject and portrays meaning and feeling like in landscape photography.
Shane says that colors can be very distracting and can take the focus away from the subject. He says it is more raw and allows you to see the real person. I can see the truth in this in that colors can be very distracting. I think that Shane is right that black and white may be better for portraits but I like color for landscapes and other scenes where you are not supposed to be focusing on one subject
Bob Ryan
Shane feels black and white is the best for photgraphy because it can be used when taking a picture of anything. It dose not matter if you are shooting a sporting event of just the weather that day it will turn out nice. Also, he thinks that color can draw away from the artistic aspects. He also loves how many different shades and tones you can get with the blakc and white.

He believes that black and white photography is better when shooting portraits because it works with all types of lighting conditions. It is also useful because it doesnt take away from the focus and your subject due to bright or distracting colors. The different possibilities with the shades in between white and black make it exciting to work with.

Shane says that portraits are better in black and white. With black and white you can really focus on the subject without any colors that would draw your eye away from the main picture. Colors add more for you eye to look at and take in, so with balck and white there is not other things to distract you eye, it is just the image in plain view for all to see just how it is with no color details that would bother the eye.

I have a feeling that the comment I sent before didn't work because I sent it from a laptop that kept losing its internet connection, so I am going to copy and paste it again here just in case. I sent the other one at 5:30 pm on Sunday, 4/1. I wasn't going to resend, but I decided that I might as well. It might have worked, you can check, but this is just in case. Anyway, this is what it was:
Black and white photography can be fascinating for many reasons. It works well in all lighting types (color photos might not look good with low lights, but they add mood to black and white ones). Any type of picture can be taken with black and white (clashing colors don't ruin the picture). Lots of colors everywhere can be distracting to the viewer, but black and white subdues them while keeping the contrast of interest. Black and white photography is sometimes more difficult, making it an exciting challenge of the photographer's creativity (it is hard to bring alive something in only varying shades of gray. The focus is placed directly on the subject and elements of art; the photographer can't rely on color to make a photo interesting). I like both black and white and color photography for different purposes. While black and white can make amazing prints, I would like to experiment with colors as well.

Shane feels black and white photos are better because you dont really have to worry about the lighting. another reason shane really likes black and white photos is because it brings out the picture more it lets the picture speak for itself and with black and white photos and make you focus on the whole picture as if he was using color you would only focus on the color part of the picture

Shane feels that color takes away from the true image that is captured in a picture. When a picture is black and white the onlooker of the picture can decide for him/herslef of what colors the image is, instead of being told. The mood of the image is then more decided by the onlooker. This is actually a really cool way of thinking about black and white photography.
-Lindsay B
The author likes that fact that in black in white its all about the subject, by that i mean there is no distractions by colors. Also, black and white photos can be taken anywhere anytime. There are almost an infinite amount of shades of color (blacks, whites and greys) availible in black and white photography and he finally thinks it is more artistic to do a black and white photo because you have to try to get good shades.

B&W photos are very interesting because they do not have distracting colors taking away interest from the picture. you look more at the picure it self then the color because colors distract.
Marcus
Shane mostly went to other people for his questions. Other people liked how much difference you can have in pictures, less distraction, great tones, and wide variety. Shane feels that this choice between color and b/w is very personal. I feel that using b/w works well for things to show sorrow and mystique. It gives a feeling of a classic old feeling and shows true age and wisdom.
Chris L.
Black and white pictures I feel are more unique because they force the photographer to take a great picture without being able to use colors to enhance the image and make it more appealing to the viewer. The contrast is much more apparent in black and white pictures, too.
-Daniel Eichenauer
he thinks black and white pictures are better because they can show tone and realness of a person. Color shots have to be taken on a beautiful day in order to have a good pic.

Shane likes black and white photography for a few good reasons. A black and white photo has very few distrctions because in color pictures a bright color can draw your attention away from the main subject. Another thing about black and white is that its very simple but interesting at the same time. It is because its amazing how an image can be created by only using different shades of two simple and plaind colors. Black and white should be used more often today because these pictures show emotion and can be a very good way of expressing yourself.
-ANTH-
Shane explains that he likes the black and white better becuase if doesn't distract the person viewing the picture. It also gives the onlooker the option of deciding what color the image should be, therefor deciding the mood of the image as well, which is a pretty cool way of thinking about it.
Lindsay B
Black and white photography is less distracting and gives a person great personal tones. Lighting in a black and white photograph is key to the overall mood you are trying to set in your picture. The variety of choices in creating a certain desire or outlook will work well for your picture. Black and white is good for portraits to set a mood and I like to leave landscapes and bright colorful things in color.

black and white is not as distracting as colors if a picture is in black and white ur more likly to look at the subject and not defineing colors that maybe in the backround

Shane prefers black and white photgraphy because there are no other distractions that may occur within the image. The viewer of the image is able to look at the photograph and decide what color he or she wants the image to be, which means the onlooker of the image also is able to then decide the mood of the photograph. Which is a pretty cool way to look at it.

black and white photos are good because they show the realness in tone and shadows while color only works well on sunny days. Black and white photos bring out the real person and the quality in the shots, as well as adding the real shadows and lighting. I personally like balck and white for everything but nature, because with nature i like to have the real color and tones.
Shane believes that color photography is less distracting than black and white photography. Black and white photography also show who a person really is. Black and white photography is raw and pure.
Black and white photography shows truth and is honest. sometimes color can take away from the picture and cause distractions. using black and white photography also sometimes works better with certain lighting situations and is artictic.
Shane says that using color prints can be very distracting to the viewer. The color takes the focus off of the subject. When using black and white film, the photos are raw and simple with no distractions. The viewer can easily look at the picture and see what the image is all about. The main point is color prints just add distraction when black and white just shows the true essence of the photo.

This person likes black and white photography for a couple reasons. First of all, black and white photography works in all lighting situations. Also, he said there are no distractions in color. His opinion is that color can distract you when black and white is the raw form of the picture. He also likes the tones. In black and white, there are numerous shades you could get in your picture. Finally, he likes black and white because he likes how the pictures could be so soft, or how they could be so strong.

In this artical it talks about the difference of black and white and color pictures. In this topic i say that black and white are better for pictures because you get more detail out of the picture. And the kid in this artical agrees with me. And color pictures make the picture have less detail in it.
