Filter, Dodging and Burning Assignments - Due Wednesday, December 12th

This assignment requires you to use polycontrast filters to produce different degrees of contrast within your print. The purpose of this assignment is for you to see the affects of using different filters in the darkroom to enhance the contrast of your print. In class I explained what happens when you use different types of filters and now it is time for you to see for yourself.

Using the negatives from the White Subject assignment, choose one negative that you would like to use for this assignment. You are going to turn in three prints for this assignment: one print using a #2 polycontrast filter, on print using a #3 polycontrast filter and one print using a #4 polycontrast filter. Behind each submitted print please place the test strip for that print. Please get into the habit of writing your enlarger’s aperture setting and time on the back of your prints. This will be extremely beneficial to you when you want to make reprints at a later date.

You will be required to turn in all of your negatives, three prints, test strips and a summary of the assignment. The summary should include the camera settings when you took the picture, why you choose to develop negative you did, the enlarger settings and times during the print process, an explanation of the affects of filtering, the affects of using different numbered filters and what you learned from this assignment.
