Course Description
This course is designed to teach students the various components of the 35mm camera, their uses and results. Much time is spent in the darkroom developing film and producing pictures using such techniques as dodging, burning, using poly contrast filters and vignetting. Digital photography will also be taught through the use of digital SLR’s, scanning of negatives and digital point and shoot cameras. Photoshop will add as a digital darkroom. Creativity is stressed with students experimenting throughout the year. Composition is discussed and various techniques such as sepia toning and texture screens are also ways in which students use their creative ideas to produce finish projects. All projects assigned are designed to allow for individual expression and student interest. (A fully adjustable 35mm camera is required.) $105fee required plus additional materials.
Classroom Rules
- Food and Beverages will not be permitted in the classroom (see Student Handbook)
- No profanity, abusive or obscene language will be permitted.
- Book bags are not to be brought to class.
- Students should be in the room by the time that the bell rings.
- At the end of the period, students will remain in their seats until the teacher dismisses class.

Cooperating with other students and the teacher

Project Points - Projects will be assigned points according to their worth. All projects will be checked for the following items as announced:
Print Quality
Composition
Focus
Correct Exposure
Correct Labeling
Dry Mounting
Written Project Summary
The use of the above items may vary with the assignment.
Tests and Quizzes will be given at appropriate times and their point value will be announced. There will be weekly vocabulary quizzes.
YOUR FINAL GRADE for each quarter will be calculated by combing all of you earned points and using a scale of 90% for an A, 80% for a B, 70% for a C, 60% for a D, and less than 60% will be and F.
Hall Passes – Hall passes will only be given out in EMERGENCY situations only.
Lab Fee and Required Supplies– There is a $105.00 lab fee for this course. All students are expected to bring with them to each class the following items: dedicated 1” three ring binder, photography paper and camera. Not being prepared on a daily basis will result in a lower grade and suspension points.
Class Blog– All students will be required to have/create a Google login. This login will allow you to contribute to the class blog. The address for the class blog is:

It is highly recommended that you subscribe to this blog via a reader such as Google reader, yahoo, etc. You may also enter an email address on the blog and an email will be sent to you each time the blog has been updated. The blog will contain your required reading.
