Hand Coloring Assignment - Due April 20th

You may use any of your negatives for this assignment but make sure it is a good quality picture, no blurred or out of focus please. You will need a fresh print on Matte paper. I strongly suggest you make at least two prints as there are things that can go wrong. You will be using Marshall oil paints for this assignment and they do not dry very fast. To help protect this print I will show you how to do a matte mount and require that this assignment be matted.

The Marshall Way has many advantages over direct color photography. Objects may be colored almost any color desired regardless of the original colors. Marshall’s colors are permanent, do not fade and are the most true to life colors you can obtain in photos. Besides this, the Marshall Way is the most economical way to color photos, only a few cents per print.

It will not be necessary to complete a print at one sitting. Work can be halted at a suitable stopping point and resumed as desired. Mistakes in coloring are virtually impossible inasmuch as changes and corrections are easily made before the colors have had a chance to dry.

Please read the following links. Both will help you to produce outstanding work.
